Sexual Abuse and Sexual Trauma

The Wings Foundationwingsfound.org -An organization based in Denver dedicated to ending the cycle of childhood sexual abuse. They also offer free support groups for survivors, as well as many other resources. 

Forge Forwardforge-forward.org/about/ -A national transgender anti-violence organization. Choc full of resources about transgender health, advocacy, trauma healing. They also have an excellent youtube channel. 

RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) rainn.org – national anti-sexual violence organization. Provides advocacy, support and education around sexual violence. RAINN also runs the national sexual assault hotline. 

 

Anxiety, Trauma and Neurobiology

Youtube Channel: Therapy in a Nutshell by Emma McAdam LMFT. An excellent channel with many great explanatory and helpful videos about anxiety, trauma and self-regulation. She teaches many techniques of how to calm anxiety, self-help for PTSD, depression and explains many concepts that counselors and therapists use in session. I just love how she makes this free and accessible to so many people.

Book: The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk -an introduction to what trauma is, how it impacts people and how to heal it. Bessel van der Kolk is a pioneering researcher on trauma and how it lives in our bodies and nervous system.

 

Relationships and Attachment

Books:

 Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller An excellent introduction to learning about your attachment style and dating with attachment in mind

 Your Brain on Love: The Neurobiology of Healthy Relationships by Stan Tatkin PhD (only available by audiobook) an excellent book on how to understand your own and your partner’s attachment style and includes very helpful tips on how to create a securely functioning relationship regardless of where you

 Polysecure: Attachment, Trauma and Consensual Non-Monogamy by Jessica Fern -applies attachment to a wider lens of non-monogamous relationships. Also a good read even if you are not in a non-monogamous relationship as the principles are widely applicable across many situations.
